MSC Men garner 6pts away at Wazalendo Youth and Parklands SC – Legacy

A dominant outing in Nairobi this past weekend, recording two crucial away victories that underlined their growing stature in the national hockey league. The coastal giants extended their unbeaten run with a 2–1 win over Wazalendo Youth on Saturday, 13 September, before following it up with an impressive 3–1 triumph against Parklands-Legacy the next day.

The opening fixture against Wazalendo Youth was a test of patience and resilience. MSC struck first in the 11th minute through K. Ayako, setting the tone for the match. However, Wazalendo Youth quickly found their rhythm, equalizing in the 24th minute via D. Ipataah whom with a fast start from the dotted line caught the MSC defence unaware for a calm finish to the bottom right corner of Cleophas “Cleo” to make it 1-all. With the contest delicately balanced, it was the in-form midfielder Anthony Onyango who once again rose to the occasion. Onyango making a steal at the top-D of the Wazalendo youth defence to net the decisive goal in the 41st minute of the thrid quarter, with his goal proving the difference to wrestle the points out of a stubborn Wazalendo Youth.

Fast forward to Sunday, and MSC Men turned on the style against Parklands. Despite conceding early to a Hesborn Galinda’s 10th minute strike, the coastal side regrouped swiftly. With Ray Kipng’eno levelling matters at the back-post in the 22nd minute before the Onyango show rolled up once again. The attacking midfielder scored twice in quick succession, in the 28th minute and a sublime scoop of an assist from the restart from Teddy “Shark” Odada in the 31st minute, to guide MSC to a commanding 3–1 victory. His brace not only secured maximum points but also reinforced his reputation as one of the league’s current inform scorers, with 6 goals from 4 games.

Onyango’s consistency has been pivotal to MSC’s turn around, with his consistent running on and off the ball and timing proving decisive in key moments. His goals over the weekend take his tally higher, marking him as the man to watch in the current campaign.

Whilst the two wins in Nairobi mean MSC maintain their unbeaten record, showcasing both their attacking firepower and defensive discipline, “these are still early days for the team and there are playoffs still, nonetheless we hope to mature as the league progresses” said Coach Fredrick Arika.

With momentum firmly on their side, MSC Men return home with six points, renewed belief, and a firm statement of intent.
