The race for playoff qualification heated up this past weekend as MSC Men’s Hockey team delivered a near perfect performance on home turf, clinching two crucial victories that cemented their position at the top of the KHU National league standings.

On Saturday, September 27th, in a top of the table clash, the boys in blue battled Gorillaz H.C, in a tightly contested clash at the Mombasa Sports Club grounds. The visitors, known for their physical style and counterattacks, tested MSC’s defensive resilience from the onset. However, MSC rose to the occasion, showing attacking flair and composure in key moments to take a 3-0 lead upto the 40th minute, with goals from K. Ayako, P. Elvis and A. Onyi, before a Gorilla onslaught caused a scare in the final quarter with 2- goals from Mathenge and Bakasa to make it 3–2 in favour of MSC

Sunday’s encounter against Wazalendo Youth brought a different kind of challenge. It was a game of patience and discipline, with MSC seemingly having won on paper but failing to win convincingly, absorbing pressure from the ever running and “youthful” Jumba and a cunning Gabriel at right back for Wazalendo while waiting for the right opening. However, this weekend belonged to K. Ayako with the breakthrough came midway through the second half, when a well-worked penalty corner proved vital in securing the 3-points, with MSC holding firm to register a narrow 1–0 win, earning three vital points.

The back-to-back wins secured a maximum of six points from the weekend, moving MSC four points clear at the top of the national league table. With this cushion, the team has not only strengthened its grip on first place but also positioned itself strongly in the push for guaranteed playoff qualification.

MSC Team Manager Stephen Boaz, praised the squad’s determination and recent performances, highlighting the importance of collective effort: “It was never going to be easy playing two diverse and tricky opponents in as many days. The boys showed unity, and resilience to deliver results for our club. This momentum gives us confidence as we enter the final stretch of the season.”

With form, points, and confidence on their side, the playoff dream now feels closer than ever.
